Capoeira in Frankfurt am Main with Professor Popô
Since 2012

I've been studying capoeira since 1999 and teaching in Frankfurt am Main since 2012. Over the past 15 years I got to learn from very different masters and to teach internationally myself. I combine capoeira contemporânea and capoeira angola, meaning I want to teach the art in a way that fits our time without losing its Afro-Brazilian roots. At the centre are the game in the roda and the music of capoeira and Candomblé, plus solid strength and mobility work. I'm a certified personal trainer and bring plenty from yoga, movement and functional training into class. You're welcome with or without experience, whatever movement background you come from.

FAQ
What language are classes in?
German or English, depending on the participants. Frankfurt is international and language barriers usually dissolve quickly through movement and music. I speak German, English and Portuguese fluently.
Do I need prior experience?
No. Workshops and classes work for beginners and advanced students alike. Level and complexity adapt to the group. You should be at least 18 and ready to move.
Which capoeira style do you teach?
A contemporary mix of capoeira angola and contemporânea. The focus is on playful exchange, music and flowing movement rather than the combative elements. I'm an active member of Xará Capoeira, led by Mestre Soldado.
Do I have to train barefoot?
No, but I recommend it: connecting to the floor with your hands and feet is a central part of the practice and training without shoes strengthens your feet, legs and knees over time. The first weeks might bring a few blisters. That passes quickly.
What if I'm not fit enough?
Then you're in the right place. At the start of each session I ask about injuries and limitations. Complex movements are broken into difficulty levels so everyone can work at their own pace. Fitness comes from training, not before it.
Do you teach kids?
No, I currently focus on adults. Happy to recommend other groups in Frankfurt if needed.
